Here in Luxor Sabine, Graham and myself do
all we can for the children and animals, trying to instill a caring
way with their animals which are mostly donkeys, horses and puppies
but there is so much more that needs to be done and particularly
in a farming area on the west bank of Luxor known as El Marise.
We have been doing what we can from the side of the road for some
time now. There is clearly a need that isn't being met and this
is why we, along with Jan in the UK and some like minded friends
started the charity - Animal Welfare of Luxor - AWOL -
so that we can do so much more to help the animals and people here
but we do need your help.
Do visit our web site at www.AWOL-Egypt.org
Simply
showing a child how to wrap a nose band to stop a chain from cutting
into the flesh of an already overworked horse or donkey, something
that is so obvious to us, improves the quality of the animal's day
to day life.
Ignorance of basic animal care is a major problem but we all strongly believe that this early education is making a enormous difference to the lives of the animals. We do have a language barrier to contend with (though we all speak some Arabic and are learning all the time) and that Luxor and Egypt in general is a very poor country.
There is so much more that needs to be done for
the animals and we all want to do more and through AWOL we will do
more but only with your help so please visit our Animal Welfare
Of Luxor web site and support our charity if you can.
Coming to Luxor? Then Click Here for a page you can print off with our contact details and where you can meet us. If you could bring anything from the AWOL wish list or anything to help the animals it would be really helpful. We do also like to give out black pens for school use and children's clothes (especially 3 to 8 year old age group. It is very cold at night in winter so warm clothing is also extremely useful) to the poorest in the villages when we can get them.
I look forward to meeting like minded people whilst you are here in Luxor. Please Click Here to contact me by e-mail or call me on 010 138 1267 when you are here and we can meet up.
Don't forget to visit the AWOL web
site at www.AWOL-Egypt.org
Thank you for caring.
Pauline
