Limpy ~ An AWOL Dog case history.

29th march 2010

Limpy, as he is affectionately named, disappeared from his home only to return some days later with broken leg and a swollen foot. Both of which were badly infected. This was obviously as the result of a road traffic accident.

The smell alone told us that the leg had to be amputated and it had to be amputated today.

Some time later and the operation was a success. we just had to wait until he had completely come around from the anaesthetic.

30th March 2010

Limpy was our first call the next day as we had to inspect the stump and it looked exactly as it should, which was a relief to all concerned.

3rd April 2010

AWOL Trustee Jan tries to get Limpy to eat. Anyone who has owned a dog will know just how hard it is to get them to eat after a cold let alone a major operation. Jan persisted and once Limpy started it was then impossible to get him to stop.

We checked on him every day to start with and then every other day for some while. To this day we see him at least one a week whilst out in the villages.

12th May 2010

With the stump no longer needing to be wrapped Limpy was more like his old self.

The broken concrete pipe behind him is his home as it offers cool surroundings out of the heat of the sun. There is also a small stream behind him which he loves getting into during the summer.

16th June 2010

Pauline makes a fuss of Limpy. He was between coats at this time and though he didn't initially, he now loves to be brushed.

2nd May 2011

We see Limpy at least once a week and he is now a father and a very proud father to boot.

In the picture with him is his significant other and just a couple of his puppies.

15th September 2011

We see Limpy here just a few days after needing treatment on his ear which you can see had to be shaved and somewhat reconstructed after it was shredded in a fight. He might only have three legs but he takes his territory and his madam very seriously.

The ear is healing nicely but it will be a while before the fur grows back.
