AWOL Looking Forward to 2012

Who could have thought, as the world watched the changes in Egypt during 2011, that this year would have been so successful for AWOL, and the animals of the AWOL area. We are treating many more donkeys, horses, camels and dogs than ever before, in an ever expanding area. The AWOL Centre is very well advanced, and now we just need the funds - the money - to finish it. The AWOL team in the UK are doing all that they can to raise all that we need, but the team in Luxor can only spend on the centre after all the medical bills are paid.

We would like to thank Jean Heley and Moody Mares for their support of AWOL

As we write this, the electric wiring and sockets are being put in at the AWOL Centre. We have already bought the fuse box, cable, sockets and switches that we need, so it is just the electricians that we have to pay for. Once this is complete, we will have to again wait until the extra funds become available, that will allow us to move on to the next stage.

A major concern of ours for 2012 is that tourists do not appear to be coming back to Luxor as quickly as we had hoped for. This is disappointing for us as we need supporters to see just how much good that AWOL is doing. We do our best to give you a feel of what we are achieving in our monthly donkey and dog newsletters, though there is nothing like being in Luxor and seeing for yourself.

We have lots of fundraising events planned in the UK during the better weather, including our annual AWOL Dog Show, and these events will all be on the AWOL notice board nearer the time. We just have to keep our fingers crossed for a rain free summer in the UK, as the weather makes such a difference to the number of people that attend any event.

Kathryn Black and the Theban Curse is now available in paperback as well as for your Kindle, and as ALL PROFITS go directly to AWOL you can buy this for yourself, friends and family, and have it sent directly to anyone, in the UK, Europe, USA or many countries around the world, if you have an Amazon account. It is a large paperback at around 110,000 words so makes and impressive looking present.

Jan's AWOL UK Printed Newsletter - Winter 2011 - which Jan sent out to supporters that don't have access to the internet, early in December, is also available here. Just click on the picture on the left, or on the link at the bottom of this page. It is in .pdf format and will open in a new window.

AWOL UK Managing Trustee, Jan Bennell, spent a self funded Christmas with Pauline and Graham in Luxor, working out daily with Pauline and Dr Mohammed in the villages. When you meet Jan at AWOL events she is able to tell you all about AWOL and everything that we do, from her first hand knowledge. Jan is a great speaker, so if you would like her to speak at your event in 2012 do CLICK HERE for more information.
