Volunteering with AWOL in Luxor

In late March 2011 we started building the AWOL Medical Centre and by early 2012 the work is well advanced, but realistically it will still be some while before we will be in a position to welcome not only visitors who want to support the good work of AWOL, but also volunteers who would like to help AWOL at the Medical Centre.

Once the AWOL Medical Centre is open we will be able to welcome you all to find out more about the work of AWOL and we do welcome volunteers, but being a small though very busy charity we do need to diary in volunteers so that you get the most from your time as we feel it is important that you work one to one rather than in groups.

You are no doubt aware that there are other animal charities in the Luxor area, but not on the west bank of Luxor, outside of the tourist areas, and though we all share the same goal we do not share the same path to this goal. From experience it does not work if volunteers move from one charity to another during the time that they are here, but we certainly feel that it is a good idea to make a visit to all.

Even though we will do all that we can to ensure any volunteer’s safety we are dealing with animals, often in pain and therefore they can be unpredictable so it is important than any volunteer has enough insurance to cover any accident or injury and they will be expected to sign a form to that effect on their first full day of volunteering. It is also important that your tetanus inoculation is up to date.

For the right person volunteering with AWOL can be very uplifting and most rewarding.
We have many supporters that come back time and time again.
