As a caring and responsible
charity Animal Welfare of Luxor tries to buy all
that we can locally to support the local community. Things in general
are much cheaper in Egypt but there are some things that are more
expensive, others that are much more difficult to find than in Europe,
some of very poor quality and some just not available here at all.
AWOL spends most of its time looking after the very hard working donkeys as well as showing families how to care for their dogs and the very many puppies. We also do what we can for horses and cats so if you have anything that you think may help our work please do contact us.

Vet Wrap |
We urgently need Vet Wrap as we are now totally out of stock. |
Sudocrem |
Mostly considered for use on babies with nappy rash this has proved invaluable on open wounds and burns. It really does aid the healing process, it stays on even in the heat of the Egyptian summer and is not easily licked off. As much as possible please. |
Duct Tape |
The wide, usually black, tape that we use in many ways but it excellent for wrapping damaged donkey hoofs. We have found from experience that the black duct tape is much stronger than the silver. |
Puppy and Dog Wormers |
Always needed as they are just not available here. Absolutely desperate for these especially as there are no tourists here at the moment so if you can bering some please do. |
Fly Veils |
Fly veils have proved to be most useful so if you are able to bring some with you when you come over they would be most appreciated. Jan has details of the type that we use, and they are available from most tack shops as they are actually for horses but the smallest ones fit the donkeys well, so please do contact her if you can help the donkeys in this way. |
Brushing Boots |
We currently wrap horses ankles where their gait causes the hoof to catch or brush the fetlock, so if you have, or come across, any brushing boots they would be most useful. |
Beaphar Dog Flea & Tick Drops |
Beaphar Dog Flea & Tick Drops for small dogs and puppies from 2 weeks old are excellent so if you can bring any over it would be a great help. |
Advantix Spot-on Solution for Dogs from 4 to less than 10 kilo |
These are for the the prevention and treatment of tick and flea infestations as well as the repulsion of mosquitoes, sand flies and stable fly in dogs and they work really well here in Luxor. |
| IMPORTANT NOTE
It is only from experience that we have discovered Frontline to be of little use out in the villages
so please do not bring Frontline as we do not want you to waste your money.
Both Beaphar and Advantix (details above) have proved to be excellent. |
Dog and Puppy Biscuits |
If possible Pedigree Gravy Bone biscuits as all the dogs here love these and it helps us to make friends with an animal that we want to treat but any quality dog or puppy biscuit that has multi vitamins would be most appreciated. |
Cat and Kitten Biscuits |
Any with a good vitamin count. We find that Purina are liked by all. |
Old Towels |
So many uses and we get through so many. |
Flea Combs |
We reward children who look after their dogs with flea combs so we could do with quite a few as our stock is going down rapidly. They must be the metal pronged type as the all plastic ones become brittle and break in the heat. |
Tea Tree Cream |
To aid with healing. |
Animal Shampoo |
Any special animal shampoo that removes fleas is needed as though we have had some brought over we can't keep up as we use it as quickly as we receive it. If you can find “Green Fields Dog Pest Repellent Shampoo” it would make our life so much easier and help the dogs so much more as it really does tackle horseflies as well as ticks and fleas. |
Bandages,
Primary Dressings and
Seri-strips |
All types, in and out of date.
1001 uses and we use so many. We haven't found a source for
primary dressings or Seri-strips here and with bandages they
weigh so little to bring over and the quality is much better
in europe. Any elasticated bandage is so useful for the donkeys. |
Reflectors and Reflective Material |
It is extremely difficult to see donkeys and the carts that they pull after dark so if you have access to any type of reflective material that can be stitched on to tack or reflectors that can be screwed onto the back of the carts it would be very much appreciated. We must do everything we can do to stop accidents before they happen. |
Extra Strong Dog Collars |
We need large dog collars that are also extra strong. Nylon with metal buckle preferable. |
