About Us - Animal Welfare of Luxor - Egypt

At AWOL we all passionately care about the welfare of animals and in turn the welfare of the family that owns them. Having spent the last few years living in Luxor, helping people care for their animals and getting to know so many families we realise that it is not cruelty but a lack of A horse and cart in the shade at El Marise, Luxor.understanding and outdated practices that compound the hardship.

Though we have seen significant improvements to the animals on the east bank of Luxor and particularly the calash horses that give tourists tours of the town, the condition of the animals of the large farming community of El Marise, on Luxor's west bank, remain unchanged. This is where your support is needed to open a small centre where we can make the lives of amongst others the large number of dogs, horses and the extremely hard working donkeys so much better through preventative medical care and education.

We are doing what we can in the villages that form El Marise but we urgently need extra funds for a basic centre from which to work. This would give us a fixed location for people to bring their animals to and would, once funds allow, enable us to employ a full time vet.

These are early days and we are looking for like minded people to join us, raise awareness and of course funds to help the community and especially the children grow with a better understanding for the animals that work so hard for them.
