AWOL Focus on Fundraising

Though we are focusing on fundraising events this month don't forget our March pictures page which you can reach from the link at the bottom of this page.

March started off better than we could ever have expected with the land completely cleared of sugar cane and a superb fundraising event, Judi Grossman's AWOL Charity Indian Supper at St John's Church, Walmley, on the 1st March which was a huge success and from e-mails received it appeared that everybody had a really great time. Here is her report of the evening:

My thanks go to Jagbir Rai who has a big heart and, when directed to the AWOL web site, immediately offered to help by donating and delivering all the food. Jagbir even lent me his jacket while we waited outside the Church for the vicar to open up which was very gallant as it was perishingly cold. He was more than as good as his word as he had some specially made Indian puddings for us all - as if we could manage those as well! To Chris and Carmel - what can we say, he was such a sport and donated two cricket bats signed by the England Team - they are worth some serious money and we will auction them at the AWOL ball on the 18th July at Middleton Hall. Everyone worked really well together and were more than willing to part with their cash. My husband Irving was compare/comedian for the evening and his boss Graham had everyone in stitches with his risque rendition of 'Purchasing my Valentine's Valentine'. Thanks to everyone who didn't take a penny from the stand up bingo (shortened version) and threw their winnings back in the bucket! And to a certain friend who has a big heart but a small pocket - thank you so much for your donation of an aromatherapy massage - you know who you are! To all those who couldn't come, a massive thank you for your generous donations, especially Jan. Friends and family thanks for helping with the washing up and tidying - think the Church was possibly more sparkling when we left it than when we came!

I'm so grateful to Jag because he inspired me to go for it with his generosity. It's quite true and totally unsentimental but without people like him in the world, the world would be a poorer place. Jag doesn't want any thanks - he does it out of his love of animals - all very humbling.

Most of all thank you to everyone for your support and we look forward to meeting friends, old and new at the AWOL ball.

Judi

AWOL wishes to thank you all for caring about the animals in a place that is such a long way from home. We also want to thank Severn Trent for their "Charity Matching Scheme" donation of £500 and Gardener's World at Walmley for their donation of a mountain bike which was duly auctioned for £70 and then generously donated back to AWOL. Thank you.

This month we were very pleased to welcome Alison, a good friend and supporter, as AWOL Scotland Area Fundraiser so we are gradually covering the whole of the UK with support groups so why not contact Jan who will connect you with like minded people and can also let you have full details of the AWOL ball which is from 7.30 pm on the 18th July at Middleton Hall, near Tamworth, Staffs. The event is black tie and tickets are £33 per person. It should be a really great evening with ALL profits going directly to Animal Welfare of Luxor.

Thank You

There are so many good, kind people out there and we thank you all as it is impossible to thank you all individually but you know who you are and that your donation is being used to improve the lives of the animals of the very poorest people of the west bank of Luxor.

Please become part of the team.

Now AWOL needs to build its medical centre please start a monthly donation of £10 in order to make a real difference to the welfare of the animals and allow us to plan further ahead. Please Click Here for a Standing Order Form that you can print off, fill in and send to us. Thank you for your support.
