Well we didn't expect to be
writing a newsletter before October when Pauline's voluntary work
with the animals on the east bank of Luxor comes to an end but a
sudden fortunate change of events has allowed us all to progress
with the move to El Marise so it is full steam ahead.
By October it is expected that Animal Welfare
Of Luxor will have UK charity status which has been delayed due
to a change in the Charity Commission rules back in April of 2007
where they will not register any charity that doesn't raise at least
£5000 a year. Prior to this a charity was only required to
raise £1000 per year in order to be registered. After a meeting
with Jan, Sabine, Pauline and Graham we feel we are now in a position
to apply to the charity Commission and on Jan's return to the UK
on the 15th August the AWOL application will be progressed.
The
other main talking point this month is the land for the Animal Welfare
Of Luxor - AWOL - animal hospital in El Marise. Obviously Sabine,
Pauline and Graham had seen the land but Jan hadn't. It was lower
than the surrounding land so it had to be filled and leveled and
now is ready for the building of the boundary wall but we can do
nothing more for the moment as we are waiting for all the legal
paperwork to be completed before we progress any further. Money
is hard to come by so we cannot waste it. Enshalla (God willing)
it will be completed soon and the good news is that our lawyers
are making no charge for their services as they support AWOL.
Obviously having a charitable animal hospital
on the west bank of Luxor is going to be quite different to helping
animals by the side of the road and where we have relied on our
own efforts we are all looking for ways to raise more funds for
Animal Welfare Of Luxor but as we have said elsewhere these are
early days and we are looking for like minded people to join us,
raise awareness and of course the extra funds that will help the
community and especially the children grow with a better understanding
for the animals that work so hard for them.
It is an exciting yet also worrying time as there
just doesn't seem to be enough hours in the day as whatever we do
we cannot let the animals and children down and Pauline and Sabine
continue to do what they can, day by day whilst Jan returns to the
UK with a mountain of paperwork to get through and Graham is sorting
out the fine details of the land and creating our web site as quickly
as possible.
