Early in the month we were pleased to have local councilor and good friend, Nasser Hussain, join us for the day to see the AWOL land and what AWOL does on a daily basis. This donkey had the most horrid wound on a rear hip due to being in an accident when it was hit by a falling metal gas bottle. It will take a while longer but thanks to all the work AWOL has put in it is now healing well. |

Pauline prepares to change a harness whilst Tony shows an owner how to correctly wrap a nose band. Meet Tony at the AWOL Summer Ball at Middleton Hall on the 18th July. See this month's Newsletter for full details. |

This small, mud brick house in El Marise is home to this family, no electric, no running water and a palm frond roof that you can see through when you are inside. They are such a welcoming family and we enjoyed stopping to have a tea with them. A welcome break in an otherwise busy day. |

| Pauline and Tony work in the only piece of shade we could find in Armant. We think the donkey is proud of his nice new AWOL head collar and it must be better than a piece of nylon rope and a rusty chain which we took away and destroyed. |

AWOL continues to visit old friends on the east bank. Yes Pauline is in there somewhere reminding the children where to look for and how to remove ticks from their dogs. |

This family in El Marise are very proud of their horse (which is in far better condition than most that we see) but were concerned that the chain was marking the nose. AWOL took measurements and made a head collar to fit so there is no chain now. As the head collar was made from local materials it can be repaired or replaced by them in due course. |
