As promised from our “A Positive Puppy” story on the AWOL newsletter last month here is our latest picture. He has needed two more washes and worming but he is much stronger, his fur is now growing well and he happily plays with his friend, also pictured here. The puppy has been named “Puppy” by the family and we will have an update on his progress next month. |

AWOL has been trying to make a head collar that removes the need to have chain around the donkey's nose as this causes so much damage. We wrap many nosebands but feel that a correctly fitted head collar is the way to go but it is time consuming. Here Pauline and Sabine are in the early stages of making a new replacement head collar. |
AWOL visits many different locations around El Marise and Armant and replacing damaged, faulty or badly fitted items is important. We never charge but we do not just give out new items as it has to be a replacement that benefits the animal concerned. We retain the old items that we either rectify or more usually destroy. |
On our way home one day we followed some children that had watched us make head collars earlier in the day. We frequently see these children, they are eager to learn and practice their English on us and likewise we practice our limited arabic on them. They are always willing to help and happy to see us. |
Fitted with a new AWOL free head collar both donkey and owner are happy. The old chain and nylon rope is ours to destroy. |
After waiting patiently the last donkey of the day has its new AWOL head collar. All satisfied as you can clearly see in the children's faces. |
