What is it like in Giza today?
With Cairo sprawling out right up to the Pyramids they suddenly appear from behind the houses and hotels. Their immense size cloaked by anything to compare them to as they are on a plateau which is on a different level to Cairo. It is only when you stand close by and look up do you realise just how massive they really are.
We expected the pyramids to be cool inside but the are very warm and very airless so take plenty of water with you.
This is Lower Egypt and all the pyramids are in this area of Egypt, not just these famous ones at Giza there are many, many more. Memphis, the ancient capital of Egypt, is within easy reach of Giza.
