What is it like in Luxor today?

The centre of Luxor - also known as the ancient city of Thebes - has changed so much over the last few years with Station Street, the old market (Souk), tourist bazaar and the area behind Luxor Temple being completely remodeled. Building work is ongoing but it is now much less intrusive for visitors.

Luxor West Bank, where the vast majority of ancient monuments are, remains mostly unchanged to the eyes of a tourist though regular visitors will notice that nearly all of the homes on the Theban Hills have now been demolished.

How do you show Luxor in six pictures, in short, it's impossible. That's why we have our Ancient Wonders of Luxor section.
