31st July 2008
This time of year we seem to be innundated with very large spiders looking for somewhere to nest. Graham remembers only too well when a spider a quarter of this size caused me to phone him at work to come home and deal with it. Now they really don't bother me at all.
Well thanks to Kay July started very similar to June as before Kay went back to the UK she kindly offered to look after our family whilst we went to Hurghada for a short break. We really enjoyed last time but now we were both well we enjoyed this trip even more. We stayed at a different all inclusive hotel and even though the two breaks only add up to just over a week away it actually seemed that we were away longer.
We didn't spend anything in Hurghada until we went into the town on the way home and bought four polo shirts and then came across a sports equipment shop where we bought a “wear off the Stella” machine. We are using it but it is already working as now we can’t afford to buy Stella. Ho hum!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yet again there are lots of changes taking place in Luxor. The New Winter Palace is currently being demolished and the Emilio Hotel is closed whilst a new facade is being constructed and it is beginning to look really upmarket. The shops on the Nile side of the Emilio have all been demolished as have the ones opposite and further along the Police Station has gone. Near to Convoy Street on the corniche the Susan Murbarak Garden is being created and it looks as though it will have a cafe within it. On the west bank at Romla, where the ferry lands, the whole area where the taxis and buses park has been demolished along with the shops to the right behind the sports ground all the way up to the Africa restaurant.
We have been really busy with Animal Welfare Of Luxor and trying to see everybody whilst they were here. Our family do not like the heat so they look forward to us coming home so that they can lay, usually peacefully, in front of the dining room air-conditioner and seldom move unless food is around. Charlie, our youngest pussy, gave us a scare when we couldn't find him one evening and though we were still looking for him at one in the morning we ended up having a sleepless night. Thankfully he came in for breakfast the next morning. Earlier in the month he stayed out very late but we found him in the early hours so this was his first night out on the tiles. It is such a worry as we are right by the Nile as though on the flat he zooms around, no problem, he is not 100% and is unable to jump as he has little power in his back legs due to being hit by a car when he was very small.
Normally July and August are quiet months due to holidaymaker's being quite sensible and not wanting to come to Luxor at this hottest time of year but this July it has been difficult to keep up with all the comings and goings. Just so many of you wishing to escape Europe. It's been great seeing you all and we look forward to seeing you all again. We are just sorry that we didn't have as much time for socialising as usual.
If you would like to meet up when you come over then do Click Here and drop us an email. Yes we really do need some more tins of Homepride Curry Sauce as we really like our curry and though we thank everybody who brings some over we just can't get enough. Branston Pickle and Worcestershire Sauce would also be very much appreciated. We will of course pay you for anything you bring.
If there is anything you would like to know then do send us an e-mail. We always reply but it can take a few days.
Anyway that's it for another month.
