30th August 2007
Wow what an excellent month which started with the opening of the Luxor Legal office on the 1st August. It took longer than expected to get the office ready but it was worth the wait. Lets hope we can continue to put an end to some of the scams. The Luxor Legal Advice web site is now finished and you can Click Here if you want to have a look.
We can also introduce AWOL - Animal Welfare Of Luxor a new charity for the animals of the west bank of Luxor based at El Marise. Please Click Here for a newsletter page all about AWOL.
So with the end of the season for seedless grapes at less than 20 pence a kilo we now have grapes with pips which we can't stand but there are some really nice apples and Pauline makes a really excellent apple crumble whilst Graham is the custard expert. The mangos this year don't seen to be as sweet as previous years so we haven't had many yet but there is still time.
Everything in Luxor is gearing itself up for Ramadan which is only a couple of weeks away. Many little parties around the small villages and a big festival in Luxor has made this a really enjoyable time. We went to one village where the rides of the visiting fair were all hand operated. The "big wheel" was spun by hand and looked really unstable and there seemed to be no restriction on how many people got on it but thankfully there were not any accidents and everybody had a great time.
As you can see we have been very busy but it was great to meet up with Jan, Dawn and Amy. Jan is doing so much for AWOL and it was lovely to be able to talk about it and show Jan the land.
If you would like to meet up when you come over then do Click Here and drop us an email. If you have any room in your case and could bring some Vaseline Intensive Care it would be wonderful. I have a small one with Aloe Vera brought over by Kevin (thank you Claire), it is lovely and so much better than the Nivia we can get here but I try not to use it as I can't replace it so if you have room it would be really nice to have one of these. We really miss Homepride Curry Sauce (it comes in tins), Semolina and Worcestershire Sauce so if you can bring any of these you will be even more welcome. We will of course pay you for anything you bring.
If there is anything you would like to know then do send us an e-mail. We always reply but it can take a few days as we do not have a phone at home.
Anyway that's it for another great month.
