Looking back at September 2011

It is just a year this month, since Smudge, a little ginger kitten that Pauline brought home from one of her regular AWOL days, joined our family and he has turned into a lovely cat. Marcy celebrated his 5th birthday on the 23rd September.

Where has this year gone? We can't believe that October is upon us already. It is difficult for us to convey just how happy we are living in Luxor. Moving here was the best decision we ever made.

As you know from last month's newsletter we went to the Ramesseum at the end of August and were the only two visitors there. We have cheated and added those pictures to this month's newsletter for you to see. This month we went to the tombs of Sennefer and Rekhmire and they were even better than we remembered them. Yet again we were the only visitors and we had all the time in the world. An excellent day made all the better with an ice cold Stella at the Ramesseum cafe on the way home. Quite perfect. Do click on any Ancient Wonders of Luxor button as we have added the tombs of Sennefer and Rekhmire as well as those of Nakht and Menna and updated the pictures to the tombs of Shuroy and Roy in our Theban tombs section. We have been busy as we have also added Hatshepsut temple and the Ramesseum to this section which we hope that you will find interesting. As always ours is a picture book site rather than lots of facts that we all forget.

Graham has suffered with a really bad back this month. It suddenly went when he was stuffing AWOL cushions but he had had warnings for some while but just wouldn't take it easy. The result was that he has spent the best part of two weeks on crutches and has had to have lots of injections but thankfully as we upload this he has just started to move again and though far from 100% at least the pain has subsided.

As for Luxor itself we are still receiving e-mails saying that there is so much on the internet about how bad it is here in Egypt but Luxor is not Cairo and we personally are not experiencing any problems in and around Luxor so you really shouldn't worry about booking to come over as we still feel so very much safer here than in the UK. We have had many visitors this month including Paul, who we were most pleased to see back here and he will be back again towards the end of October, who have thoroughly enjoyed their time.

If you are coming to Luxor and would like to meet up when you are here we can usually arrange it as it is nice to meet visitors and chat about Animal Welfare of Luxor, what there is to see and do here, what it is like to live here and generally just to say hi, so please Click Here and print off the page that opens which has our phone numbers and also full details of where we can meet. If you have a corner spare in your suitcase please Click Here to see a few items that we would love you to bring over.

If you like karaoke then our friend and AWOL supporter Cindy does a really good karaoke at the Gaddis Hotel every Tuesday and Saturday from 9 p.m. Why not pop into the Gaddis Hotel bar for a drink or the restaurant for a meal. Cindy also has an Animal Welfare Of Luxor donation book should you wish to leave a donation to help the animals. Do Click Here to visit the Gaddis Hotel web site which will open in a new tab or window depending on your browser. The Gaddis is very reasonably priced and it does have a nice bar area at the rear of the ground floor where we are happy to arrange to meet you in Luxor.

May we please remind visitors who want to meet up that we never discuss relationships or have the time or patience to pick up the pieces afterwards. We love living in Luxor but this is not something that we can help you with. Temples, tombs, culture or animals and we are happy to chat away.

We look forward to seeing you when you are here.
