Looking back at October 2009

We have had so many friends returning to Luxor in October and it has been really great to see you all. Tony, Jean and Mary gave a great start to the month which you can read about in the AWOL October Newsletter. Kay arrived just before they all left and we had a great evening together at the villa sitting outside eating pizza and drinking wine and whilst we are talking about food Lluís, Teresa and friends arrived for a month from Spain via Cairo and we have had several nice evenings together and Teresa went out with Pauline and Dr Mohammed one day but it was really special dining at their apartment in the best Spanish style.

It has been an incredibly busy month with AWOL, cleaning up after the builders and so many friends but we are not complaining especially as Graham's mum and dad arrived yesterday which we have been looking forward to. It is just a pity that the builders haven't finished and we are still up to our ears in mess.

As you will see from this month's photos things are now moving on apace after what seemed like a slow couple of weeks whilst the coving was made. They make it in situ, it makes one hell of a mess and takes more than a day to complete even a small room but at least there are no joins. The inside walls were all lovely and smooth before the coving but now it looks like a flock of incontinent seagulls has flown through. Whilst mentioning birds we had the most wonderful barn owl check out the second floor.

Things should improve markedly before our parents leave as floor tiles will be going down next week and the outside walls should all be rendered within the next 4 days so we should see an end to all the sand, cement and the fine grey dust that is everywhere.
