TT 343 ~ Tomb of Benia

www.egypt-on-line.co.uk

TT. 343 - Benia, also known as Pahekmen, had many titles including Chief Treasurer during the time of Thutmose III, a position that is reflected on the walls of his tomb.

This is the entrance to the tomb of Benia - TT 343 which is in the same area, but completely separate from the tombs of Khonsu - TT 31 and Userhat - TT 51.

Benia welcomes you on the left side of the entrance as you enter his tomb.

Photographed here from the inside of his tomb looking back towards the entrance.

This false door is painted to resemble red granite and is surrounded by images of Benia with offerings including bread and beer. The hieroglyphs on the door are a prayer asking for offerings to be made to Benia.

Below this door is the shaft to the burial chamber which can be seen in the next picture.

This is the burial shaft that is below the false door. It goes down and to the left so the body was buried beneath and behind the false door.

In the top left corner of this picture you can see the bottom of the aluminium frame which holds the glass that protects the false door from tourists fingers.

This shows the decoration on the ceiling above the false door.

Benia's role as Chief Treasurer during the time of Thutmose III is clearly reflected here as he looks on as his workers weigh large rings of gold.

At the very far end of this small tomb are three, regrettably defaced, seated figures in a large niche. On the left is Benia's father, in the middle (on the right in this picture) is Benia himself and to the right of Benia is his mother who can be seen in the next picture.

Here we see Benia on the left with his mother on the right. To the left of Benia is his father which you will have seen in the previous picture.
